Disability Transition Officer - Sunraysia Institute of TAFE

Employment status: Part time, ongoing, 0.8 FTE

The role of the Disability Transition Officer is to provide one-to-one specialised and intensive support for students with disabilities transitioning from secondary school (including specialist schools and alternate education settings) to SuniTAFE. Working within a ‘Team Around the Learner’ framework this position is responsible for oversight of case-management of students throughout their first 90 days of enrolment. The role will partner with secondary schools to develop understanding of the TAFE environment and share transition best practice within the Victorian TAFE Network.
As part of the broader Student Wellbeing & Inclusion Unit, the Disability Transition Officer will work alongside SuniTAFE’s SSS Team and report directly to the SSS Team Leader. 

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum of a Diploma level, relevant qualification and/or extensive experience working with people with disabilities, including demonstrated knowledge of policies and legislation relating to the interpretation and application of Reasonable Adjustments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the experiences that young people with a disability, mental health and/or medical condition may have during educational and life transitions.
  • Comprehensive and current understanding of policy and legislative settings relevant to the rights and responsibilities relevant to people who identify as having a disability.
  • Knowledge of Reasonable Adjustments in the context of higher education and capacity to solve problems, make independent decisions and call on others where appropriate.
  • General awareness of, and familiarity with, the secondary school and Victorian Vocational Education and Training environments, and the capacity to source specialist information from other areas within the institution (such as the TAFE Education lead) to help address specific technical matters associated with the student’s transition.
