DIAP Implementation Coordinator - USyd Union

Employment status: Casual/Vacation, $35.73 per hour

As the DIAP Implementation Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the University of Sydney Union's (USU) commitment to building a more accessible and inclusive environment for students with disabilities. This exciting new position involves coordinating and implementing initiatives under the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), collaborating with students, staff, and various stakeholders to enrich the university experience for all students.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills in program delivery, stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and reporting. You will work on a diverse range of projects, including student engagement initiatives, Disability Inclusion Week events, and supporting creative programs such as the USU x Disabilities Community Room Art Competition.

What you will do

As the DIAP Implementation Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate DIAP Initiatives: Develop, plan, and deliver events and initiatives that support the goals of the DIAP, ensuring that all activities are student-centred and inclusive.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with students, USU staff, university departments, and community groups to create an annual program of accessible events that cater to diverse student needs.
  • Event Management: Assist in the logistics and coordination of key events such as Disability Inclusion Week, art competitions, and other creative initiatives.
  • Grant Administration: Work with key stakeholders, including USU, SUPRA, and the SRC, to manage grants for clubs and societies’ disability-related programs.
  • Reporting and Evaluation: Help track progress against DIAP goals, compile reports, and contribute to the continuous improvement of disability inclusion at the university.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Coordination: Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and events in line with DIAP objectives, including disability-focused initiatives and creative community engagement.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with a variety of internal and external groups, ensuring the inclusivity and accessibility of events and programs.
  • Budget Management: Work within allocated budgets, ensuring financial efficiency while delivering impactful programs.
  • Event Support: Assist with the execution of events and provide on-the-ground support for logistics, marketing, and communication.
  • Reporting: Help collate feedback, evaluate event success, and create reports to monitor the effectiveness of DIAP programs.

Essential Criteria

  • Lived experience with a disability or as a carer.
  • Currently studying for Bachelor’s degree or higher (ideally at Sydney University)
  • Experience creating digital content for the youth market (especially TikTok and Instagram)
  • Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of disability inclusion principles
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task and meet overlapping deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective, committed and enthusiastic team member
  • Ability to use basic budgeting principles to develop and/or maintain program budgets
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Intercultural proficiency - demonstrated understanding of the campus climate as it relates to cultural identities that include race, ethnicity, country of origin, age, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, and socio-economic status
  • High level of attention to detail in all aspects of work
  • Proficient in the use of Windows operating systems
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • Ability to determine appropriate usage of social networks, blogs, wikis, and emerging communication technologies to market events and programs
  • Ability to work flexible hours as occasional evening work may be required
