Advocates champion ‘historic’ national autism strategy (Audio)

The Federal Government has unveiled Australia's first ever national autism strategy - a seven-year plan aimed at improving the lives of autistic Australians.

The $42.3 million initiative focuses on social and economic inclusion, sensory-friendly public spaces, better diagnostic tools, and tailored employment programs.

While almost 300,000 Australians have an autism diagnosis, the strategy estimates the true number of autistic people is much higher.

Disability advocate and researcher Ebe Ganon, who participated in the consultation process for the strategy, told ABC NewsRadio’s Sarah Morice it is one of biggest developments in autism rights in history.
