Access and Inclusion Advisor, Student Wellbeing - The University Of Notre Dame

Employment status: Full time, competitive salary (level 7) + 14.25% superannuation

Student Wellbeing is a national suite of inter-connected services that deliver a tailored, holistic, human-centric and evidence-based service model. Student Wellbeing support students to stay engaged in study and thrive during their university years.

The position assists the University to meet its legal obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992), the Disability Standards for Education (2005) and the University’s Policy: Students with a Disability. The position reports to the Senior Access and Inclusion Advisor and provides essential support to students with disabilities helping them to participate in their education and attain success beside other students. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Learning Access Plans (LAPs) that outline reasonable adjustments to help students participate in their studies, such as alternative exam arrangements or accessible course materials.
  • Regularly update these plans to ensure they meet the students' current needs.
  • Collaborate with academic staff counsellors, and other staff to ensure students receive the support they need.
  • Provide training and resources to help staff support students. 
  • Determine the support needs of students with disabilities, medical conditions, and mental health conditions so students can participate equitably in their study program.
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with relevant business units and academic staff to support student learning needs.
  • Identify continuous improvement of practices, operational processes and reporting while identifying broader organisational impacts in relation to strategic planning, development and implementation of services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and keep abreast of relevant legislation.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Hold relevant degree qualifications and possesses a strong level of industry experience, management expertise, or a combination of education and practical experience.
  • Proficient in providing specialized advice and applying policies, procedures, and legislative standards effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled in providing support on a variety of issues while maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical, evidence-based practices.
  • Well-versed in current issues within the higher education sector.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and care in handling confidential information.
  • Familiar with the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005).
